Restaurant

During renovations we took special care of restoring the original state of the building.

While dining amidst antique furniture and paintings, you can feel the turn of the century era of the famous Hungarian writer, Gyula Krúdy.

Our cuisine is the modern version of the then world famous 19th century Hungarian cuisine. It is mainly based on fine local ingredients, at the same time preserving and emphasizing their qualities.

Being understandable is an important characteristic feature of our food.

For breakfast, we serve freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade jams and fruit yogurts, freshly baked pastries and a variety of omelettes.  We also serve cheeses made by local organic farmers and Mangalitsa meat products.

In the summer, breakfast is served outside on the patio surrounded by the beautiful garden.

Gastronomy

In 2010 Káli Art Inn was voted in the 100 best restaurants by The Sunday Times.

We have never meant to change the environment, rather we have intended to develop and - where necessary - to emphasize its main characteristic features, and naturally, we have always presented them to our guests well in the spirit of our times. All this has largely contributed to the success. The primary philosophy of our restaurant is the same: we introduce Káli Basin to our visitors via food and flavours.

Local herbs and spices give special flavours to our food. Our garden produces basil, thyme and marjoram as well as tomatoes, almonds, apples, quinces and peaches, which are all used up in our kitchen from spring until late autumn.  We like to purchase meat and other ingredients primarily from local farmers.

Guests are served with lavish breakfast: homemade jams, honey from the beekeeper, locally made cold-cuts, cows’ and goats’ cheeses, yogurts, freshly baked bread, and pastries.

Dinner is served in a fine and stylish environment and in a homely atmosphere.

The menu is created by our chefs from seasonal, fresh, local ingredients.
Special dietary needs are always taken into consideration in our menu.

We offer special menus to be served according to your requirements on private events.

Balaton Uplands is the homeland of Hungarian white wines. In Káli Basin, you can hardly find a house without a wine cellar.

Enjoy the original and full flavours of wine in our wine cellar or on the vine covered patio.

We try to amaze you with new flavours every day.

We buy ‘happy’ Mangalitsa and goat meat from Éva Kővári’s farm. Spices grow in our own garden.

Opening Hours

Guests are welcome for breakfast and dinner.

We kindly ask you to always make a reservation in advance: 06309228715

Dinner for the evening is arranged with our guests at breakfast.

The restaurant is primarily for the comfort of our overnight guests, so dinner is always prepared when we have guests staying for the night.
Sometimes we have tables available and then guests who do not look for accommodation in our pension are also welcome.

For breakfast, we serve homemade delicacies, freshly squeezed orange juice, jams, homemade goats’ and cows’ cheeses, farm fresh milk and hot drinks in jars.

A 4-course fixed menu is prepared for dinner, every Thursday, Friday & Saturday. On weekdays we offer cold snacks from our pantry and local wines.

The menu is a surprise every day. You are welcome to receive information by phone, so that you make sure to visit us when we cook your favourite meals.

As everything is freshly prepared and the ingredients are purchased daily by our chefs, it is important for us to know in advance how many guests we have for dinner because the number of portions we prepare depends on the number of guests who have made a reservation.

Köveskál, GastroVillage.

We warmheartedly recommend one of the two other restaurants in Köveskál for lunch.
